Gentlemen’s DashTM

The Paint Pittston Pink™ Gentlemen’s Dash™ is the brainchild of Sal Sciandra, husband of Paint Pittston Pink™ President and Co-Founder, Barbara Sciandra.  Sal and Barb were discussing fundraising events for Paint Pittston Pink™ on a beautiful summer evening while visiting some friends in Boston.  Barb vividly remembers Sal coming up with the crazy idea to have men compete against each other while wearing high heels.  In planning anything for Paint Pittston Pink™, the committee always wants to ensure that as much hard-earned money as possible is raised and donated to cancer research.  Sal believed that his idea would serve as a symbol for the pain that women, and even men, face while undergoing cancer treatment.  The Paint Pittston Pink™ Gentlemen’s Dash™ was born!

In 2015, the second year of Paint Pittston Pink™, Barb took Sal’s idea and dashed!  Barb made some very awkward phone calls with the inquiry to do a 50m dash on Main Street, Pittston in heels!  Barb promised that the highest fundraiser would wear flats on race day.  We now know that this was just a fundraising tactic!

In Paint Pittston Pink™’s second year, the first high-heeled event was held.  As with anything, it took a little while for the Dash to catch on.  However, it soon became a staple of PPP’s Paint Pittston Pink™’s events, and it didn’t take too long before men were volunteering to participate.  The Gentlemen’s Dash™ really helped to put Paint Pittston Pink™ on the map.  The community looks forward to this event, in particular, year after year.
